Hilary is silver
ST. HILARY earrings. His feast day is on JANUARY 14
St. Hilary of Poitiers (300-368) is a confessor and doctor of the Church.
A powerful opponent of the Arian heresy, he labored tirelessly to promote the orthodox teaching on Jesus Christ as true God and true man and was persecuted for it. A convert from neo-Platonic philosophy, he was chosen to be bishop of Poitiers even though he was married with a daughter (St. Abra).
Hilary's name means "cheerful" in Latin, so it is difficult to resist the temptation to bend the elbow on his feast day. St. Hilary was such an effective opponent of heresy that he was known as the "Hammer of the Arians," yet his writings are smooth and eloquent. In honor of these two qualities, we suggest a Velvet Hammer.
